Grass Fire in Mernda – 20/02/19

On the afternoon of Wednesday, 20th February 2019, Mernda CFA volunteers were responded to a grass fire at the end of Everard Road in Mernda. The fire was burning quickly in the grass land at the rear of the Mernda Villages estate. Mernda Captain David Weedon quickly responded extra trucks to assist.

Local Residents were quick to call in the fire.

Up to 40 CFA vehicles responded to the call for help, stopping the fire withing 100 meters of residential properties bordering the parkland. A community warning was issued for residents north of Everard to alert of the impending danger. The fire was marked as under control at approximately 6pm burning a total of 10 hectares. Fire trucks remained on scene for the next 2 hours ensuring the fire was extinguished.
